Finding the right work-life balance
How to strike the right work-life balance in terms of time, satisfaction and psychological involvement is the subject of a new e-factsheet from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.
Available to download free as a PDF from EU-OSHA’s website, the factsheet has been produced to reflect the “dramatic changes” that have occurred in the labour market and demographic profiles of employees in recent years.
According to EU-OSHA, there has been a shift from the traditional male breadwinner role to dual-earning couples and single-parent families, alongside increasing demands on employees to be flexible and more productive. The traditional ‘job for life’, it points out, has died out in an economic environment of instability and job insecurity.
The factsheet looks at the sources, prevalence, adverse effects and costs of work-life conflict and provides practical advice for employers and employees on how to avoid it. It also contains links to a range of free toolkits that both parties can use to address work-life balance.
