Winner and finalists announced for SHP’s Rising Star International award

The SHP Awards judging panel has announced the winner and two finalists for SHP’s Rising Star International. 

SHP’s Rising Star Awards commend young health & safety professionals showing drive and determination in the early stages of their careers.

Rising Stars is brought to you as part of the wider SHP Awards, which, for 2022, is once again in collaboration with Shirley Parsons, global HSEQ talent experts.

Rising Star International celebrates health & safety professionals, across all sectors, going above and beyond to improve occupational health, safety and/or workplace wellbeing from across the globe.

The winner is…

Oluwasegun Abdulwaheed, Menasco Mechanical Contracting

Through his work at Menasco, Abdulwaheed delivered ISO45001 and 14001 certification which contributed to the firm winning an array of projects for a handful of large clients across the UAE. He has a passion for a behaviour change safety but it is beyond the office that Abdulwaheed has thrived, in particular leading an African group of HSE professionals offering a mentor programme and skills workshops which has garnered its members a range of opportunities in the profession. Specifically, he set up an ISO Lead Auditor Training Course for members, delivered presentations and has ultimately continued to the group’s CPD.

Finalists…

Saravanakumar Natarajan, M Al Barghash Co Ltd

At 26, Saravanajumar is one of the youngest Chartered members of IOSH, and has a suite of other qualifications including NEBOSH International Diploma in OHS, an MBA in Safety Management and a Diploma in Labour Laws with Administrative Law, all of which has been achieved over four years. He is also a NEBOSH examiner, a member of the IOSH Peer Review Panel and an IOSH Mentor.

Professionally, he has implemented a procedures and policy management system for a company that had no real safety programme in place developing a safety strategy for the company’s management team, bringing the firm into compliance and ultimately contributing to two construction projects without any LTIs. In his current role, he has been involved in a number of waste management initiatives, similarly, he continues to benefit the local community by motivating those from his own village to consider a career in health and safety.

Theophilous Eze, Ejadah Assets Management Group

Working for the Ejadah Assets Management Group, Theophilous oversees the safety for security personnel, technicians and housekeeping staff who he has trained to carry out their duties in a safe manner. He has done this through a variety of creative ways including positive employee involvement to create emergency response plans while adhering to all legal requirements. His risk management work also saw incidents reduced by 15 per cent

He has also worked on a variety of projects including World Expo Dubai 2020 (held in 2021) overseeing risk assessments, emergency planning and the distribution of safety signage ensuring the safety of all delegates.
