SHP AWARDS
SHP Trailblazer Awards
The Trailblazer Awards were launched in 2020 and recognise health and safety professionals who have made a positive difference through innovation.
The awards are free to enter and open to all in the UK, irrespective of level of seniority, age or industry. The award aims to celebrate true innovation in the profession which has been used to solve a problem and made a real difference in their environment.
This year, the awards are in collaboration with HSE Recruitment Network.
Previous years in this category have seen sub-awards in workplace wellbeing, ESG, technology and positive social impact. This year we are looking for one overall winner – the Trailblazer 2023.
The current holder of the 2022 UK Trailblazer award is Matt Hall, Head of Health and Safety for Royal Free London NHS, In the early stages of the pandemic Matt headed up a small response team and worked closely with colleagues as well as senior management to ensure NHS staff received fit-tested PPE so they were fully protected to carry out essential duties. “There were probably a lot of people around the country who were having the same journey and I am lucky that somebody nominated me for this [award],” he humbly told SHP, when asked how he felt about winning the category.

What makes a Trailblazer?
If you’re looking to enter the SHP Trailblazer category, judges will be looking for an innovator: someone who has come up with a solution having identified an issue or problem within their workplace; they have developed ideas to solve that issue or problem and successfully implemented it into the workplace, communicating with stakeholders (such as managers) throughout the process. Judges would like to see demonstratable evidence in terms of statistics that show improvements in safety, efficiency/lost time incidents, cost savings, for example, or even short case studies.
Collaboration
SHP is pleased to be running this year’s awards in collaboration with HSE Recruitment Network, part of the Executive Network Group. Being recognised as a recipient or contender in the SHP Awards 2024 comes with a fantastic opportunity. You will have the privilege of participating in an exclusive, one-on-one, tailor-made workshop with Laura Aucott, the Associate Director of HSE Recruitment. These workshops are designed to align precisely with your unique needs, providing either an extensive career counselling and CV improvement session, or a workshop session focusing on enhancing your personal brand and optimising your LinkedIn presence. The ultimate goal? Elevating your market worth to new heights.
