SGUK awards open for entries

Entries are now being accepted for the 2014 Safety Groups UK (SGUK) awards.

The annual prize-giving event comprises two accolades; the Alan Butler Awards and the Maurice Adamson Award.

Designed to recognise the success of local safety groups affiliated to the SGUK, the Alan Butler Awards scheme requires entrants to answer five key performance questions, based around the following criteria:

  1. Communication methods and type of information communicated to the group
  2. The group’s annual programme of seminars and events
  3. Evidence of how the group works with HSE and its partners to be part of the ‘Be part of the solution’ health and safety strategy
  4. Membership retention and recruitment, as well as member support and benefits
  5. Details of the single group achievement in the last year they are most proud of and why

The Maurice Adamson Awards showcases an individual safety group member who has made an outstanding contribution to the movement of their local group.

Chris Jerman, Vice Chair of Sheffield Occupational Health and Safety Association (SOHSA), explains why the awards criteria forms such an integral part of his group’s annual activities.

“The categories when woven into the operating plan, actually add benefit to the group and the offer to our members. In effect striving towards an annual awards from SGUK has the effect of making us a stronger, better group which in turn provides our members with the service they want and need.”

The winners are due to be announced at a SGUK awards luncheon at the House of Lords in January.

The closing date for all entries is 30 November 2014.

Entry details, including an entry form to download, are available here.
