Event in Harrogate: Managing legionella

The Harrogate & District Health and Safety Forum has organised an event on managing legionella risks.

The forum, a partnership between local businesses, HSE and Harrogate Borough Council, has aimed the free event at small-to-medium-sized businesses such as hotels, residential and nursing homes, schools, etc. where there is a reasonably foreseeable legionella risk from the water system.

If you are an employer or someone in control of premises, you have a duty to manage legionella risks. Many water systems, including hot and cold water systems, cooling towers, spa pools, fountains, and vehicle washers can provide the right conditions for legionella bacteria to grow and spread, unless they are managed correctly.

The event will take place at The Pavilions at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate on 26 February, and is designed to give a better understanding of legionella, identifying high and low risk water systems, and controlling the risk.
