Each style of safety footwear has its own individual benefits but all have to conform to a set of safety standards, represented by various codes and abbreviations that you should look out for when considering which pair of safety shoes to buy.

A safety shoe is designed to protect workers’ feet from heat, chemical spills, slippery floors, wild life, sharp objects, electrical shock, and other hazards.
A good safety shoe will have protective reinforcement in the toe (a steel or composite toe) which protects the feet from falling objects or compression. They may also include a mid-sole plate, a composite metatarsal guide, to protect against punctures from below.
Before you purchase safety shoes for your company, make sure to invest in shoes that meet the specific needs of your workers, the environment and the job. Also be sure to source shoes that meet the required standards, such as compliance with ISO EN 20345:2011, and are CE marked.
Common features in a safety shoe:
- Safety toe for protection against falling or heavy objects.
- Cushion between toe cap and the foot for comfort and insulation.
- Anti-perforation midsole for puncture protection.
- Special soles made from a variety of materials for protection against a range of hazards.
