Elevator safety systems – Memco

Global elevator safety and communications specialist Memco says its Elite elevator safety systems are to be installed in 74 elevators at Indira Gandhi International Airport’s new Terminal 3 in New Delhi. The systems will be fitted to elevator doors supplied by ThyssenKrupp Elevator.

The system features two independent detection systems: a light curtain of infra-red beams criss-crossing the elevator car doors; and a 3D proximity detection system in the landing zone. In the event of a person or large object breaking the light curtain, or being detected in the 3D zone, the elevator doors will automatically reopen, says Memco.

The company adds that the Elite features the latest software as standard, including power-reduction and timeout features, and can be fitted to virtually any new, or existing elevators. This versatility makes it one of the most competitive and easy-to-use elevator safety systems on the market, it concludes.

More information can be found on the company’s website at www.memco.co.uk/en/elite/674.html

Good to see these measures in place. The bigger concern with lifts/elevators is whether they are designed as ‘evacuation lifts’ and capable for use to get people out of the building in emergencies. This is particularly important for wheelchair users, and other people with mobility difficulties.
