Award winning restaurant backs slips, trips and falls campaign

A restaurant director and chef, who starred in Gordon Ramsay’s ‘F Word’ television programme, have backed the HSE’s call for restauranteurs to reduce the likelihood of slips, trips and falls in their kitchens.

Chef Aktar Islam and his business partner Jabbar Khan featured in the fifth series of the hit TV show last year, and Ramsay crowned their Birmingham restaurant Lasan best local restaurant in the UK.

The pair are now calling on other restaurants across the UK to heed the HSE’s warning that slips, trips and falls in the workplace, which caused 1,396 major injuries to workers in the West Midlands last year.

Jabbar said: “Having a top restaurant is about more than amazing food. It has long been recognised that first class customer service is part of what makes a restaurant stand out, but we want to show other restaurants that the care of their employees should be paramount as well.

“Without proper checks in place, kitchens can be dangerous environments to work in – and that is why we make sure the kitchen at Lasan is free of hazards which might cause slips and trips and that all our employees know how to minimise risks.”

HSE inspector Ed Fryer added: “It is great to see such a renowned restaurant as Lasan backing our campaign and showing other restaurateurs how important it is to be aware of any potential hazards which might cause chefs or waiters to trip or slip.

“Slips and trips are anything but comical although they are often made out to be, and we want to make sure every workplace follows Lasan’s lead and takes heed of our campaign.”
