Martin Baxter, Director of Policy and External Affairs, IEMA
Martin Baxter leads on IEMA’s policy and external engagement activity. He works in the UK, and internationally, to support the transition to a low carbon, resource efficient, and sustainable economy.
Martin is a regular media spokesperson on a range of business sustainability topic areas. He has extensive experience of networking and communicating at all levels, including with senior parliamentarians, Government officials, business leaders, and academia.
Martin has national and international experience in developing and negotiating global and European standards and developing capacity for effective and widespread implementation. He is chair of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) sub-committee on environmental management systems and head of the UK delegation. Martin is a board member of IEMA and also the Society for the Environment (SocEnv). He is a Fellow of IEMA and the RSA, and a Chartered Environmentalist.
Begonia Filgueira, LLB (Hons), Solicitor and Spanish Abogada, FIEMA
Begonia is a commercial environment and climate change lawyer with over 20 years’ experience advising companies, developers, the public sector and law firms.
Her practise covers all aspects of environment and climate change regulation including, waste, asbestos, water, environmental liabilities, project finance, prosecutions, judicial reviews, green finance, ESG, human rights and climate change governance. Before joining Acuity, Begonia worked at several magic-circle law firms and most recently headed up the Environment Practice of a national law firm.
An expert in her field, Begonia is a trusted advisor to Boards advising on managing environmental risk and enabling resilience through climate change governance. She trains and updates professionals on environmental law and has given expert evidence to the House of Lords on new environmental legislation and continues to support Parliamentary Committees with her expertise.
Begonia is MD of the ERIC Group Ltd, sits on a number of boards and co-chairs UKELA’s post Brexit Governance and Devolution Group.
Teresa Higgins, Brand Director, Barbour EHS, Moderator
As head of Barbour EHS, Teresa is continuously working with Health, Safety, Environmental, Estate’s and Facilities professionals to develop services that help and support busy roles.
Teresa has worked for Barbour for a total of 30 years and been instrumental in the success of the business over that period. She has been in this current position since 2014 and previously also held roles at CCH UK, now known as Croner and IHS.
