Interested in joining the Women in Health and Safety Committee?

We are seeking applications from health and safety professionals, of any age, sex and experience level, to join the Women in Health and Safety (WIHS) committee to run the network from June 2018 to June 2019.  Applications are sought by 27 April 2018 and the application form is at the bottom of this page.

What is Women in Health and Safety?

Women in Health and Safety is a thriving network of people who support gender equality and want to see women, who constitute a minority of the profession (at about 25%), flourish. We connect in-person and online. Our get-togethers are free to attend and open to all, and we actively encourage both men and women to join us.

  • 2000+ people have attended one of our events
  • 2015 was when the first event took place
  • Events take place all over the country
  • Shirley Parsons, Acre, Hays, Redcat, the Health and Safety Executive, Land Securities, Mace and NEBOSH have all hosted events
  • Safety & Health Expo hosts our biggest annual celebration – June 20th 2018
  • Women in Health and Safety is part of SHP

For more information about the network and current committee, see this page.

About the committee and what membership involves

The WIHS group is run by a committee of people from the profession at all stages in their careers. Applications are sought for the new committee to form from June 2018. We are looking for 6-8 people to join a few members of the old committee who plan to stay on.

As well as being passionate about encouraging and supporting women in the profession, Members of the committee for WIHS are expected to:

  • Run one event for WIHS from September 2018 – May 2019. This might be a mini-meet where people turn up somewhere and all pay for themselves, or a full blown event which your organisation funds or gets a sponsor for. Sessions have been run this year by Mace, Land Securities and Acre. Running an event incorporates liaising with Lauren Applebey of SHP to give all details of the event prior for an article in SHP and ensuring there is a report of the event – either through SHP or yourself; ideally you would also run registration if possible.
  • Physically attend three out of four meetings in the year. These will likely be in London as the chair is located there and one of them will always be at Safety and Health Expo.

Still interested?

If you’d like to join the committee, please submit your application using the form below by 27 April 2018. You will hear from us in May 2018.
