Grime artist Stormzy used his appearance at last night’s Brit Awards at slam the Government’s handling of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
The British artist broke into a freestyle rap during a performance of his hit song Blinded By Your Grace last night at the Brit Awards ceremony, which was held at London’s O2 Arena.
“Yo, Theresa May, where’s that money for Grenfell?” he rapped in front of the live audience. “What you thought you forgot about Grenfell?”
Criticisms
The Government has faced numerous criticisms over the availability of funding since the Grenfell Tower fire last June, which killed 71 people and left many others homeless.
“You criminals, and you’ve got the cheek to call us savages, you should do some jail time, you should pay some damages, you should burn your house down and see if you can manage this,” added the rapper.
Stormzy won the award for best British male and best British album last night at the Brits.
Following his performance, the Labour MP David Lammy tweeted: “Theresa May where’s the money for Grenfell? You think we forgot about Grenfell?”. Respect @Stormzy1 speaking truth to power.”
And the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn took to Twitter and commented “what a powerful performance. #Grenfell”.
Justice 4 Grenfell
Earlier this month, the Campaign group Justice 4 Grenfell created three billboards which were placed on the back of trucks and paraded around London to illustrate the lack of progress since the tragedy.
The three billboards were driven through central London on the way to Grenfell Tower, where they parked outside what is locally-dubbed ‘The Wall of Truth’, to highlight the lack of progress being made in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
The activity was undertaken to remember eight months since the tragedy, and the stunt recreates a scene from the film ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’, which won the best film, original screenplay and the outstanding British film awards at last weekend’s Bafta Awards.
