UBM’s second OSH India Exhibition and Conference, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, has been hailed as a great success.

The event was almost a wash out before it began, when heavy rain gushed into the hall in the early hours of the morning. However, it was all cleared by the local team and almost 3,000 visitors were able to pour through the doors to meet with 74 local and international exhibitors.

OSH India has seen an increase in attendance of more than 50%. The exhibition was seen as having matured: Robert Stynes, international business executive for Nebosh, said: “The quality of visitors has improved significantly. We’ve been very busy and it’s been worthwhile attending”

The OSH India Conference, overseen by the British Safety Council, was held in an adjacent theatre and attracted more than 120 delegates from all over India. Delegates spent the morning with Lawrence Waterman, who discussed the topic of Safety Leadership. He called on the proud legacy of the Olympic Development Authority for examples of what can be achieved when senior management commitment is in place and a collaborative approach employed.

On day two, Doctor discussions included how in the absence of effective enforcement, professionals needed to use the social and financial arguments within their businesses to create a commitment to safety. This required them to leverage new legislation on Corporate Social Responsibility, which requires companies to spend a percentage of profits on CSR initiatives.

An awards ceremony was held at the end of day one, which celebrated innovative programmes and local heroes.

OSH India is only in its infancy and the team has big plans to develop, including a new event in Chennai in July as well as return to Mumbai in November 2014

It could also be “newsworthy”, noting that IOSH has an international membership that is likely to increase. Specifically from India, with the accreditation by IOSH of the British Safety Council’s “bridging module” for holders of the Advanced Diploma In Industrial Safety so that candidates who have successfully completed the bridging module areeleigible for Graduate Membership of IOSH

Quite right, it was classified incorrectly. We’ve now recategorised it. Thanks
