Revamped guide sets safety standards for global exhibitions
A number of major exhibition organisers have joined forces to re-publish a guide aimed at improving safety standards at overseas shows.
In 2009, UBM, Reed, Clarion, Maybridge, DMG and X-Venture formed a group to examine the safety standards and working practices used when building and dismantling overseas exhibitions.
Two years later the group published the g-Guide, which sets out a commitment to minimum acceptable safety standards The guide has been reviewed and was re-launched at an event in London last week.
The updated guidelines are widely applicable to events but have been written specifically with exhibitions in mind. They cover the main areas of risk, but where it’s not possible for these standards to be achieved, the event director, or equivalent, must use their judgement to set a suitable attainable standard.€ᄄ
The guide has been translated into multiple languages and there are two IOSH-accredited training courses to support the guidelines. A number of contractors and international venues have already agreed to follow the guidelines.
For more information on the guide, to see a list of companies that are supporting it, or to download it for free, visit http://www.theg-guide.org/
Below is a video interview with UBM’s Rob Creber and X-Venture Ltd’s Simon Garrett at the launch event. They discuss the reasons behind the guide’s relaunch and give more information on the supporting training courses.
