Ninth National CDM and Student Designer Awards launched
The Association for Project Safety (APS) has today announced the launch of its ninth National CDM and Student Designer Awards.
The annual event will take place on Thursday 27 October at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London.
Historically part of the annual APS convention, for the first time this year, the National CDM and Student Awards will be a celebration in its own right, marking inspirational good practice within the Design and construction Health and Safety Risk Management sector.
Commenting on the launch, Richard Wilks, APS President, said: “Our awards acknowledge both current and future members of the Design and Construction Health and Safety sector, by rewarding examples of good practice, and providing people in the industry with a benchmark of success to work towards. We strive to continuously improve and promote professional practice, and the ninth annual CDM and Student Awards will showcase the exceptional work happening in our industry.”
“Amongst APS Members are the country’s leading architectural, engineering, health and safety, project management and surveying professionals. Although we are responsible for organising and hosting the awards, the CDM and Student Awards are open to both Members and non-members. We are seeing excellent examples of work and would encourage everyone to enter if their work is connected to risk and Health and Safety within the construction industry. We look forward to welcoming our Membcccccers, as well as meeting some new faces at the event in October.”
With nine different categories for companies and individuals to enter, including BIM Project of the Year and Student National Award for Innovation, the awards will recognise exceptional projects from both working professionals and young people in training to join the sector.
Richard, continued: “There are so many different award ceremonies and events within our sector for people to enter. However, these awards often only recognise the importance of Design and Construction Health and Safety through perhaps one or two dedicated categories.
“APS’ CDM and Student Designer Awards are stand-out in that each and every award recognises the vital role construction health and safety plays within our sector – regardless of what stage the entrant is at in their career, whether it’s a university student or Principal Designer – so that together, we can make sure construction workers and others return home safe and healthy each and every day.”
Entries into the CDM and Student Designer Awards close on Tuesday 31 May, with judging by an expert panel of industry figure-heads, including the Health and Safety Executive, taking place over the summer months. Following the vigorous judging process, the shortlist of successful entries will be announced in early September.
All shortlisted entries will be invited to an exclusive reception at the House of Commons on the afternoon of the awards evening. Attending the event will be MPs representing the constituencies of the shortlisted candidates and Parliamentarians with an interest in the work and reach of APS across the UK. At the reception, attendees will also have the opportunity to discuss how Parliament champions the Health and Safety and Risk Management industry in Westminster, before attending the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, where the winners of each category will be revealed.
As well as celebrating good practice within the Design and Construction Health and Safety sector, the awards evening promises to be an enjoyable event with a high profile speaker, dinner, dancing and entertainment.
Applications into the CDM and Student Designer Awards can be made online via the APS website with entry free of charge.
