Managing road risk can reduce fleet operating costs

New guidance for fleet managers on the financial benefits of managing road risk has been published as part of a campaign to improve fleet safety.

Produced by the road safety charity, Brake, the guidance is intended to demonstrate how identifying and managing the risks of vehicle collisions can help lower operating costs.
In 2008, a report produced by the Association of British Insurers estimated that crashes at work cost more than £2.7 billion a year. To reduce the costs associated with road crashes, as well as ensuring the safety of their drivers and of other road users, fleet managers must take proactive steps to manage road risk.

Brake professional engagement manager Roz Cumming said: “Investing in fleet safety will help to save lives and money through crash prevention. Even minor collisions can be very expensive for fleets.

“This report highlights the hidden cost of crashes and provides steps for fleet managers to follow.”

The PDF report is available for free for Fleet Safety Forum subscribers, or can be purchased for £5 by non-subscribers. Email [email protected]
