SHE 11 – BSIF announces awards winners

David Lummis, chief executive officer of BSIF, gave a taster of the Safety and Innovation Awards, the trophies for many of which will be presented at the RoSPA Safety Awards dinner this evening.

Three categories of awards are offered:

  • Best service
  • Safety excellence
  • Product innovation in the last year

Nominees for the exemplary service award were judged by their customers on how they deliver their products, their innovation and how they fare against other suppliers. Out of the 19 entries received, Guardsman Ltd was commended for its services to distribution and the McOnie Agency for its PR services. Highly commended were Arco Scotland, Willis Safety of Glasgow and Arco Blaydon.

The safety excellence award is given to companies that can prove quantifiably that their customers’ health and safety performance has been substantially improved. Joint winners were Natas Training for its elearning management system and Portwest for its newly developed clothing system.

The product innovation award was for products that have been confirmed to reduce accidents in the workplace. From over 30 entries, three were commended: Microguard for its PABR Coveralls, designed to protect employees in high-hazard areas; 3M for its Versaflow TR300 powered respirator; and Sperian for its low-clearance Twin Turbo fall arrest system. Highly commended were Cirrus Research for its Optimus Green Sound Level Meter; Sperian for its Quiet Dose Noise Exposure Monitor, which measures noise via earplugs over the working day; and Simon Safety for its Redwing Oil and Gas Boot, a corrosion-resistant boot with a lacing system that prevents trips and falls.
