Canadian province’s first integrated health and safety strategy
The Ontario Ministry of Labour has launched the Canadian province’s first integrated health and safety strategy. Designed to prevent injuries and improve the delivery of workplace health and safety, the strategy sets priorities for action over the next five years.
The groundbreaking initiative was developed after the ministry consulted with the province’s business community, labour groups, health and safety associations and the general public.
According to George Gritziotis, the ministry’s chief prevention officer, the strategy “sets out a cohesive vision, goals and priorities for the next five years that will help us collectively maximise the resources available to prevent tragedies by addressing areas of greatest need.”
The strategy’s actions include support for small businesses, including resources to keep workers safe and support to ensure that all workers, especially those most at risk, receive the help that they need. It will also help foster compliance with workplace health and safety regulations and raise awareness among Ontario citizens about how they can stay safe and healthy at work.
