Trailblazers in health and safety land construction awards

A company that developed a real-time inspection tool and visual display device won the coveted Beaumont Safety Trophy at the Construction Health and Safety Group (CHSG) annual awards (see winners pictured left) in London on 27 March.

 

SafeTime Ltd produced a small piece of equipment that ‘lives on site’ and enables construction managers to check site activity performance from the office. 

 

The Beaumont Safety Trophy is awarded annually for the individual or company for the best new device or method of working initiated for preventing accidents in the construction industry. 

 

SafeTime Ltd headed up the Beaumont Safety Trophy award winners but due to the high standard of entries, there were also three winners a piece in the highly commended and commended categories. 

 

Highly commended awards went to GKR Scaffolding Ltd for an effective washer system that eliminates the risk of falling scaffolding tools; to McGee Group Ltd for developing a real-time recording piece of equipment that is moveable and provides a simultaneous visual indicator for noise; and Ramtec Electronics Ltd for designing a wireless firm alarm system. 

 

Commended awards went to Brickworker Ltd for a jig that can be used to safely cut bricks and pavers on-site; to JSP Ltd for developing a checking mechanism that is built into a face mask to encourage wearers to check themselves; and to Mace Ltd for developing an effective communication system to visually display its health and safety messages to staff.

 

The awards, which were held at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel also saw Wooldridge Construction Ltd lift the training award. The CHSG recognised that the small-to-medium sized company had undertaken a significant commitment to train its staff.

 

The CHSG was formed in 1952 and includes representatives from major construction companies in the London area.
