JUMP: Scottish Courts launch employee engagement programme

The Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service (SCTS) has launched an employee engagement programme to boost wellbeing.

The six-month JUMP pilot programme, which is run by the company Green Rewards, is being offered to 200 employees at Glasgow Sheriff Court, in partnership with facilities management provider Atalian Servest.

Under the pilot scheme, employees will be encouraged to take part in various activities, including energy saving, sustainable travel and health and wellbeing.

Green Points are awarded for taking actions such as reporting recycling, switching off electrical equipment as well as spending time in nature and practicing mindfulness.

Monthly rewards are given to the top performing individuals, and a charity donation prize will be given to the winning departmental team at the end of the pilot.

It is thought that the use of gamification and rewards are key to JUMP achieving long-term behavioural change.

The six-month project is also the first JUMP programme for the public sector in Scotland and coincides with Green Rewards’ expansion in Scotland.

Other Scottish organisations signed up to using JUMP include RBS, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow.

“The JUMP programme we’re running with the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Services in Glasgow is a great way to engage employees in issues such as energy use and waste,” said Atalian Servest Sustainability Coordinator, Erin Miller.

“Earlier this year SCTS was awarded the prestigious Carbon Trust Triple Standard for successfully cutting carbon emissions, water use and waste, and very few public or private sector organisations have achieved the Triple Standard. Introducing JUMP is an exciting part of SCTS’s continuing journey of sustainability excellence.”

Graham Simmonds, Managing Director at Green Rewards, added: “We are really excited to be working with the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service. It’s great to see yet another organisation in Scotland implementing an employee-centred initiative to drive positive change and meet their sustainability targets.”
