Safety & Health Expo 2019

Mowing company to demonstrate its remote-controlled mowers at Safety & Health Expo 2019

Spider Mowers are commercial remote-controlled mowers for use in high risk areas. The company will be attending Safety & Health Expo, at ExCeL London, from 18-20 June 2019.

Where it is considered unsafe to cut grass with traditional walk-behind mowers or ride-on lawnmowers for example alongside highways; railway tracks; beside waterways and reservoirs; airfields; military sites; power stations and heritage properties Spider Mowers are used to replace them, however they can also be used at more conventional sites such as schools; colleges; private estates; vineyards and orchards; sports venues such as golf courses and municipal areas such as housing estates.

One of the primary safety benefits of a Spider Mower is its ability to cut Grass on slopes of up to 40° independently or up to 55° using the integrated hydraulic winch. These gradients are often referred to in risk assessments as ‘exceeding the safe operating limits’ of standard mowers and requiring additional, specialist machines.

It is in these locations where it is not safe for an operative to work using standard grass cutting machinery which will result in site damage, near-misses, injuries and sometimes death. Operators can control the machine from 100 metres away to minimise risk, but this does not compromise productivity either.

Visitors to SH1040 can get more details on the machine and a chance to see an onsite demonstration of the remote machine operates with features such as zero hand-arm vibration, zero whole-body vibration and distance from noise exposure. The mow is capable of productivity equal to 15 operatives with trimmers. Visitors will also get to see up-close the 4 wheel drive system which enables them to turn 360° on its axis for quick manoeuvring.
