Hand Protection – Globus

Globus has launched the GREEN-DEX™, which they say is the world’s first biodegradable nitrile disposable glove in the UK and Ireland.

GREEN-DEX™ (a Showa Best product) is said to biodegrade in biologically-active landfills, therefore providing an effective, single-use hand protection solution as well as boosting a company’s green credentials and reducing recycling costs.

According to Globus, “the unique ‘biodegradable’ characteristic is made possible by the innovative, patent-pending Eco Best Technology™ (EBT)”.

The company says the EBT organic additive is designed to make GREEN-DEX™ attractive to microbial activity in a landfill. According to Globus, normal nitrile gloves take decades, if not centuries, to biodegrade and break down in landfill whereas the biodegradation rate of GREEN-DEX™ is far more rapid, although it doesn’t start to biodegrade until it is in landfill.

Globus says that the nitrile reacts positively to a wearer’s hand shape and skin, forming a snug fit on the hand allowing for increased sensitivity and good dexterity. It also doesn’t contain any natural rubber latex and so can be worn by anyone with a latex sensitivity.

According to Globus, nitrile glove can be worn under or over other work gloves to add liquid-proof protection, the gloves are said to be more puncture resistant than latex gloves, and use body temperature to mould to the shape of the hand ensuring a snug fit.
