Innovation at Safety & Health Expo: Eemits

eemits radioJames Watson, sales account manager at Eemits, talks to the digital editor of SHP about why they’ve decided to exhibit at an innovation pod at the Safety & Health Expo and what innovation means to them.

What does innovation mean to you?

Innovation in our industry is about taking something that you already use and making it do more for you. With the introduction of digital technology the industry is continuously working to develop new applications and programming features that make two-way radio devises accessible to more users with very different needs. In this instance our innovation has not been about creating a new product or new way of working, but an incorporation of these processors into one solution. It is very important that business don’t simply add new systems just for the sake of innovation. New is not always better, but when we can innovate by streamlining existing processors into one bespoke solution, the benefits can be even greater.

Why is your product innovative?

Two-Way Radios used to be a very basic system for voice communication only. With the advancement of digital technology modern radio handsets have exceeded this single feature and now offer bespoke solutions for the lone workers, emergency alarm handing, and security.

We can now bring together a number of different processors, and manage them in one bespoke system. You can do away with having a text pager, mobile phone, GPS Locator, and manage all your voice traffic, and alarm systems through one user interface.

Why are you taking this product to the Safety & Health Expo in June?

Awareness. Voice only two-way radios are often a commodity that run in the background, and when they work no one ever questions them. When people realise that a device that they have to have anyway can also be used to manage other needs, they can get significantly better value for money from their system.
