Asbestos management – iStar software

Engineering and environmental services firm Thomson Ltd has launched a new iStar Asbestos Management software system.

The iStar system is aimed at all facilities managers, health and safety officers and duty-holders with responsibility for asbestos on their sites. Thomson first developed the iStar for its own asbestos surveying and abatement teams and has tested the software in the field for a decade. The current system is described as a robust, tried and trusted solution that can be applied in industrial plants, schools, hotels, or any premises that contain asbestos.

According to Thomson, the iStar provides an extremely easy-to-use visual database of all fixtures, fittings and infrastructure containing asbestos across a user’s site. All items are logged and cross-referenced with photos and site plans, giving facilities managers, contractors and operatives a clear and up-to-date picture of all locations containing asbestos and their status, adds the company. Users can also search for locations by text, maps, plans, or site-grid systems.

The iStar, says Thomson, ensures compliance with health and safety regulations, alerts users to overdue inspections, and records all removal works. The system is also said to generate an on-demand audit trail of completed works and confirmation of procedural compliance with relevant standards.
