Portable appliance testing – Seaward Apollo 600

The latest electrical safety tester from Seaward, the Apollo 600, is equipped with risk-assessment tools to ensure a proportionate response to the inspection and testing of electrical equipment.

The PAT device is said to combine electrical testing with sophisticated safety-data collection features, including an onboard digital camera, to help those involved in maintaining safety in the workplace demonstrate compliance with the latest guidance on inspection and testing regimes.

The instrument has been designed in mind of recent PAT advice from the HSE and the new edition of the IET Code of Practice, for compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the MHSWR 1999.

According to Seaward, the Apollo covers all of the electrical safety tests required by the IET Code of Practice, including earth continuity, insulation resistance at 250V or 500V, protective conductor current, touch current, IEC lead polarity and portable RCD trip time, without the risk of tripping the installation RCD.

The tester can also record data for a variety of other safety inspections, including fire-alarm systems and emergency lighting, says Seaward. It is complemented by upgraded PATGuard 3 management software. Improved features are said to include an intuitive user interface that allows quick downloading of data and simple creation of reports, as well as the ability to tag photos to assets, sites, locations and test results.
