Passengers fall ill on Emirates flight from Dubai to New York

19 people have been taken ill after an Emirates Airline plane landed in New York.

A large commercial jet caused a scare on Wednesday when the pilot radioed to say it was coming in to land with several passengers and crew suffering from ‘flu-like’ symptoms.

The incident happened at JFK Airport and the plane was put into quarantine. Health officials boarded the jet to check passengers, with eleven being taken to hospital.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 100 people including some crew had complained of illness. A statement said: “Approximately 100 passengers, including some crew on the flight, complained of illness including cough, fever, and symptoms of gastrointestinal illness.”

In total the plane, from Dubai, was carrying 521 passengers and crew.

Emirates Tweeted to say that: “The safety & care of our customers is our first priority.”
