August 11, 2023Traces of Legionella bacteria have been detected in the water at Bibby Stockholm, the barge being used to house migrants in Dorset, South West England.
According to the BBC, migrants have been temporarily removed while further tests are carried out, recommended by the UK Health and Security Agency.
Legionella is the bacteria that can cause Legionnaires disease, a type of pneumonia.
It is understood initial analysis of the water was carried out before the migrants moved to the barge and results came back after they had settled. However, despite use of the water system, there are no signs of any symptoms being shown.
This latest development comes after concerns were raised about fire safety issues on the barge, causing delays to the migrants’ arrivals.
