HSE challenges waste industry to improve its safety record
The HSE and the Waste Industry Safety and Health (WISH) Forum held a joint event last week to focus on ways of reducing accidents in the industry.
The event, which was held in Solihull, comprised workshops to share best practice in health and safety and a conference, which analysed the health and safety issues facing the industry. Speakers included HSE chair Judith Hackitt, WISH chair Christopher Jones, head of health and safety for the Olympic Delivery Authority Lawrence Waterman, and Unison’s Mike Short.
Judith Hackitt delivered the keynote address, which she explained that the HSE is committed to working with the waste and recycling industry to reduce the number of workplace injuries and fatalities. €
