College enrols students on construction plant competence scheme

The new facility cost over £100,000 and is the only full-time construction plant training centre for school leavers in the West Country. The course currently has 23 students who will undertake Construction Plant Competence Scheme tests. They will also complete an Intermediate Certificate in specialised plant and machinery operations, which is a Level Two programme covering the operation of excavators, telescopic forklifts, dumpers and tractors.Students will also complete an NVQ Level One in performing engineering operations, which covers the maintenance of a construction plant, routine servicing, hydraulics, fuel systems and turbo chargers.CPCS area monitor, Marc Docherty, said: “It’s great that the future of the plant industry is being safeguarded via the many excellent test centres we have here in the south west. Students on courses like this will gain an excellent set of qualifications; passing the scrupulous CPCS tests will mean they will be accepted to work on all major British construction sites.”
