Announcement: new editor for SHP

Lauren Applebey

Lauren Applebey, the current commissioning editor for SHP, will be taking on the role of editor in the new year.

The current editor, Roz Sanderson, will be leaving at the end of the year to live and work in New Zealand.

Lauren, who has worked in health and safety for ten years, is a qualified journalist and has a construction NEBOSH, making her a perfect choice as the next editor for SHP.

Her close working relationship with many regular contributors, associations, as well as internal and external stakeholders stands her in good stead to continue the upward trajectory of SHP’s readership.

Roz Sanderson

Roz took on the role of editor for SHP at a time when it went from a paper magazine with a little digital support to being a wholly digital publication. She has used the medium to great effect, using videos, webinars, quizzes, and a regular stream of news and features to double the usage of SHP in one year.

As well as ensuring SHP has flourished online, she was also the joint founder of Women in Health and Safety, which now has almost 1,000 members and successfully ran the first Rising Stars in Health and Safety awards in 2016, which had over 150 entrants in the first year. Roz will continue to freelance for SHP from New Zealand as a contributor.

Please join me in wishing Roz all the best for next year and offering congratulations to Lauren in her new role!

Both Roz and Lauren will be at the Women in Health and Safety Christmas Party, hosted by Acre and SHP in the evening of the 6th December, if you would like to say goodbye to Roz, and give a warm welcome to Lauren.

More information and tickets can be booked here.

Well done Lauren. I find your articles both informative and engaging; I often thought your ‘bubble’ picture must have been an very old one because your writing displays wisdom I would normally relate to maturity. I can see know I was wrong. Looking forward to SHP under your stewardship.

And greetings to Roz, welcome to NZ 🙂

John W, maturity is no guarantee of wisdom, nor is youth a measure of naivety…

Thank you John! I am lucky to look younger than I am. People are normally quite surprised that I am 32 and married with 2 children. I am certainly not complaining though!

Thank you so much for your comment. I am really looking forward to taking on this role, and representing independent news in occupational health and safety.

John and Steve – both Lauren and Roz are considerably younger than I am (20 years between me and Roz!) but I am constantly surprised at their level of wisdom which is often way beyond mine!

Congratulations Lauren! Well deserved. Sorry to lose Roz, looks like she’s off on a new adventure. Glad to hear she’ll still be freelancing for SHP though.
