Tesco admits safety failings at Leicester store
Supermarket giant Tesco has admitted failing to protect workers and customers, following two separate incidents at its Beaumont Leys store in Leicester.
The first incident took place on 12 August 2009 when an 80-year-old customer suffered serious leg injuries when she was struck by a man-powered pallet truck.
A Tesco employee was towing a number of large televisions from the store’s delivery area to a storage space. Normally staff could walk directly to the storage area through a connecting corridor, but the passage was blocked with stock. The worker towed the truck into the store so he could access the storage area by another set of doors. While he was pulling the truck down the aisle, it struck Angela Pownall and she suffered deep cuts to the back of both legs.€

swearing staff steel cages left about with no items in them staff hammering isle,s with stock instead of getting a bit at a time, listening to a member of staffs night out on the lash as he called it in all its glory. is just some of the stress the consumer as to injure shopping at tesco,s. why do i know because i work around the country and use tesco,s a lot and see and hear the same thing over again. not good.
This just wouldn’t happen at Morrisons or Sainsburys. They value their customers.
I have been is a Tescos store early in th emorning and it looks as though a bomb has gone off with slip and trip hazards everywhere as they are restocking without a care for the customers who happentto be in there because it is 24hr opening. If it can’t be opened safely then don’t open at all whatever the loss in profit.
Perhaps Tesco should listen to their own mantra – Every little bit helps.
