Survey punches hole in compensation-culture claims

New research conducted by YouGov suggests that most people have modest expectations of awards for damages following injuries at work, casting doubt on the oft-made claim that there is a compensation culture in Britain.

The research, from personal injury solicitors Hubbard Pegman & Whitney (HPW), reveals that while more than 90 per cent of 2000 adults surveyed expect some form of monetary compensation after an injury at work, people typically under-estimate how much they would receive.

The firm’s managing partner, Charlotte Pegman, said: “[O]ur experience is that British people are often too stoic — failing to claim compensation, as they are worried about losing their job, even in the case of injuries causing permanent disablement.”
