May 17, 2012The Door & Hardware Federation (DHF) has issued a reminder to those responsible for installing and maintaining industrial powered rolling shutters to ensure they are correctly installed and regularly maintained.
The warning follows a series of workplace accidents in which injuries have been caused by falling shutters.
Michael Skelding, DHF’s general manager and secretary, said: “An inadequately installed shutter can fall for a number of reasons, and an expert should inspect an existing installation to ensure it is completely safe in operation. The expert will also be able to recommend a suitable service and maintenance schedule that will be based on the individual use to which the shutter is put.”
He advised that the installation and maintenance of rolling shutters should be carried out by a DHF member company, who will carry out an installation in accordance with TS (Technical Specification) 005:2009, which governs the levels of training and expertise of the installers and guarantees that the installation complies with BS EN 12635:2002.
