Council employee tipped off HSE about dangerous excavation
A construction company put the lives of workers in danger by failing properly to plan an excavation at a building site in Rochester, Kent.
A worker from a water company and a council employee both saw evidence that work was being carried out down a three-metre-deep excavation, which was totally unsupported, into soft clay.
Chatham Magistrates’ Court heard on 19 February that the excavation had been dug to connect a single new-build home to an existing sewer at a development on Britannia Road, High Halstow. An agent employed by Southern Water visited the site to check the connection. €

I am shocked that it took until Wednesday the 30th to respond?
The seriousness of complaint surely required immediate attention given the degree of risk to both the public and the people at work?
The employer and those undertaking the task are clearly muppets. (The Animal Award goes too?)
Unfortunately I have seen similar and worse effort at controlling excavation risk and those muppets were not nicked?
It`s a rare nick with no blood on the floor, so we should applaud that effort.
