New health and safety game-based tool launched

The manufacturers’ organisation EEF has launched a new game-based tool to help promote health and safety in the workplace.

The learning tool was launched yesterday at the IOSH 2018 conference in Birmingham.

In the game, players must learn how to manage health and safety risks within a simulated work environment.

According to the developers, it will also allow individuals and departments to compete against each other to have the best risk assessment and health and safety awareness.

The game can also be custom branded and also tailor-made to replicate an exact workplace.

And it also provides employers with insight into areas where further knowledge is required and potential hot spots in the business with the ability to track improvements in knowledge and awareness.

As a result, employers track the likeliness and severity of risk and take preventative action.

“Integrating games into your training programme is a fun and rewarding route to engaging your workforce – turning what some may see as a dry topic into the talk of the company,” said EEF’s Safety & Sustainability Director, Steve Jackson.

“Built around a real workplace this new tool is the ideal way to help build a culture of health and safety into the workplace.”

The tool has been used by Fujitsu as part of their international training programme and the firm’s Head of Health and Safety, EMEIA and Americas, Simon Head, said: “This tool has been the lynchpin of our international training programme. Uptake has far exceeded any other e-based training tools, people are talking and behaviour is changing.”

We have a H&S related interactive quiz after the H&S committee meeting based on issues and stats over the last month, usually teams of 3 or 4 mixed level (i.e. management/ shopfloor) attendees, adds a bit of fun and gets very competitive while making sure things are kept fresh and thought about.
