Lead exposure leads to £3,000 fine

A Gloucestershire roofing company has pleaded guilty to health and safety failings after workers were put at risk when they were exposed to considerable levels of lead. While the workers did not suffer medical affects from the exposure, significant levels of lead were found in their blood.

On Wednesday 4 November 2015, Worcester Magistrates’ Court was told that during a routine HSE inspection, McDonnell-Price (Roofing) Contractors Limited was observed carrying out replacement lead work on a roof in Worcester.

The company was found to have not assessed the risks of exposure to working with lead or implemented suitable controls to prevent that exposure.

McDonnell-Price (Roofing) Contractors Limited, Stroud Business Centre pleaded guilty to Control of Lead at Work 6(1) and was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £893.95 in costs.
