In court
Barry Island Pleasure Park featured on BBC’s Gavin & Stacey fined
The owner of an amusement park on Barry Island in South Wales has been fined over safety failures in one of his arcades.
Henry Danter, 73, was ordered to pay a total of £35,000 in fines and court costs at Cardiff Magistrates Court yesterday (10 January).
Danter had previously admitted breaking building regulations at Cardiff Magistrates Court in November.
The court heard he had been told about issues with the Treasure Island structure at the Barry Island Pleasure Park by officials from Vale of Glamorgan Council in January and April last year.
The inspections by the council officers revealed problems with the foundations, electrics and an access ramp.
Securing foundations
The court heard most of the work to secure the foundations of the building had now been completed and inspected by the council. But some work still needed to be carried out.
Some scenes for the BBC comedy programme Gavin and Stacey were filmed at the amusement park.
Danter was fined £20,700 and ordered to pay £14,311 in court costs.
