Guidance – dust control- Bread and butter advice

Also known in industry circles as the ‘Blue Book’, Guidance on dust control and health surveillance in bakeries is described as an indispensable handbook, which outlines a range of practical measures to reduce dust exposure in bakeries. It also offers useful advice on health surveillance. This training pack is designed to help the industry deal with dusty ingredients in the simplest and most cost-effective ways, by eliminating hazards and controlling risks.Gordon Polson, director of the Federation of Bakers, said: “This material will be equally useful to all businesses using any kind of flour, including dry-ingredient producers, pizza parlours, and hotel kitchens, on top of regular bakers. It is vital that all companies, particularly smaller enterprises that may be unaware of the risk, are following best practice, as health and safety in the workplace is paramount.”Industry stakeholders who helped prepare the updated guidance include the HSE, the National Association of Master Bakers, and the Scottish Association of Master Bakers. To order a copy of the guidance, priced at £10 plus VAT, or the Breathe Easy DVD training package, priced at £99 plus VAT, e-mail caroline.ford@bakersfederation.org.uk or call 020 7420 7190.
