Airborne hazardous substances – FumeSafe extraction unit

Purex International has developed a new fume-extraction machine to protect workers from exposure to hazardous solder fumes.

The FumeSafe extraction unit features an activated carbon filter, which is used to remove harmful gases from solder flux fumes. This works alongside a sub-micronic (HEPA) filter, which Purex says can remove 99.997 per cent of particles down to 0.3 microns before clean air is returned to the workplace. The device is said to be able to extract fumes from the tips of 15 soldering irons without cooling them.

The unit features a powerful auto-sensing dual-voltage blower (230V to 120V), which enables usage worldwide. Purex says the machine is quiet during use and its key features include speed control, low capital and running costs, simple installation, filter-blocked alarm and LED, and quick-change pre-filters to deliver longer filter life. It also comes with three iron kits and pipework.
