Powered-access specialist receives international honour
A UK health and safety director was named Safety Champion at the International Awards for Powered Access conference held in Rome at the end of March.
Austin Baker, who is HSEQ director of AFI-Upflift, was recognised for his work with the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and for his willingness “to share his experience, effort and expertise to create solutions for the common good and not for his own, or his company’s gain”.
During 2011, Austin launched three major and pioneering safety systems – Sanctuary Zone, Key Zone and Smart Zone – championing safety issues at all levels of the powered access industry and bringing forward a number of key health and safety initiatives for AFI’s own staff.
AFI chairman David Shipman said: “We are delighted that Austin’s passion, commitment and success in raising safety standards throughout the industry during 2011, and, indeed, throughout his working life has been recognised in such a way.”
