Women in health & safety
Networking event: How gender influences physical, chemical and psychosocial safety
Join the Women in Health & Safety committee for a networking event on 10 September.
The Women in Health & Safety Network is hosting a networking event and inviting newcomers to join the committee. The event, open to men and women both members and non-members, will take place in London on 10 September and will focus on how gender influences physical, chemical and psychosocial safety, but will also highlight the benefits of being a part of the committee.
During the session, Chris Edwards, Exhibition Director: Safety, Health & FM at Informa, will present a masterclass on running an event and invite committee members to volunteer to host their own networking event. So, members are encouraged to come armed with an idea or two!
Sex, sticks, shooters and stress
A presentation from Lorenzo Visentin, Head of EHS at the Arriva Group plc, will explore how a gender-neutral approach actually disadvantages women across a range of health and safety risks and how a gender-sensitive approach to risk management is the key to protecting half of the workforce.
It will highlight the risks and inadequacies of PPE, including body armour, well-meaning but discriminatory policy and paternalistic lawmakers, the biochemistry of fat and the pre-disposition of researchers to use male subjects, how that influences COSHH risks and psychosocial risk in particular stress, resilience and coping strategies.
Lorenzo is an experienced health and safety leader with specialist qualification in OH psychology and holds three fellowships: the Royal Society of Public Health, the Institute of Leadership and Management, and the International Safety Quality Environment Management Association as well as being a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.
He is a peer reviewer for IOSH research, for “Policy & Practice in Health and Safety” (Taylor & Francis), for The Occupational Psychologist” (European Academy of OHP) and was a founder Independent Member of the HSE Mythbuster Challenge Panel. He supports the UK Rail Safety and Standards Board which leads and facilitates continuous improvement in the health and safety performance of the railways in Great Britain as the Chair of the Health and Wellbeing Business Risk Group, and has 30 years’ experience in H&S in the NHS, local and national government and the private sector.
