Getting on with colleagues tops job-satisfaction poll
A new study has found that getting on well with the people you work with is the main thing that makes people feel good in the workplace.
A survey published by Samaritans and Simplyhealth asked 1400 workers to select the top two factors that help them feel happy at work.
The top answer, provided by 42 per cent of those polled, was positive relationships with colleagues. The next highest response (40 per cent) was having a good work-life balance. This compared with only 14 per cent who ranked hitting their targets as the main reason for job satisfaction.
The survey results were released today (1 February) to coincide with Feel Good Friday, the Samaritans’ annual fundraising day, which aims to encourage businesses to take part in ‘feel good’ themed charitable activities.
Samaritans director for fundraising and communication Rachel Kirby Rider said: “Positive working relationships and feeling good while at work are really important when looking at overall employee health and well-being. Organisations with healthy, happy employees can find they see improvements in productivity and results.
“This is the second year that we have been involved in Feel Good Friday. The day is all about doing something fun and that makes you feel good. This year, comedy is the main focus, and we hope that everyone gets involved by organising their own event to help raise money for a great cause.”
