Charity launches football themed health campaign

A Liverpool charity is using the FIFA World Cup to promote its health and well-being campaign, which it hopes will lead to a reduction in workplace absence in the city.
Health@Work staff visited Moorfields train station, in Liverpool, dressed in England outfits and carrying flags. They handed out information on how to kick off a new healthy lifestyle, during the World Cup. The stunt was part of the charity’s Health, Work and Well-being campaign, which aims to improve the work environment, culture and health of employees.
The charity’s programme manager, Keith Gorman, said: “Our football themed health campaign went down well with commuters who were all keen to take some information and show their patriotic spirit. The campaign is something we are working closely with Liverpool NHS to deliver. We want to work with employees and employees to create healthier workplaces and healthier lifestyles. Businesses can come to us and we can give advice on how to go about doing this and putting people on the right track.”
Health@Work director Frances Molloy hopes that the initiative will help to reduce sickness absence in the area. He said: “It is estimated that sickness absence costs UK employers around £12.2 billion each year, with physical inactivity costing the economy £8.2 billion annually. These are serious issues, which we hope to tackle in Liverpool with this programme. Creating a healthy workplace will reduce workplace absence, lead to better motivated employees and in turn more profitable businesses in the city.”
