Focus on drivers’ eyesight

Free information packs are now available from Specsavers Corporate Eyecare to help those with fleet responsibilities ensure their employees who drive for work are fit to do so.

The eyesight specialist says its Driver Information Packs give decision-makers the information they require to put an eyecare policy in place and be proactive about driver eyesight.€ᄄ€ᄄAccording to the company’s own research as many as one in three drivers fails to meet the minimum eyesight requirements for driving.

Suzanne Randall, corporate account manager at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, said: “All employers have a duty of care to their employees and this includes when they are driving for work purposes. Our Driver Information Packs aim to arm fleet managers, HR professionals and health and safety experts with the details they need regarding driving vision.

“We passionately believe that improved eyecare would have a big impact on safety on our roads, and that the workplace plays a vital role in ensuring employees are fit to drive.”€ᄄ

The pack includes the number plate and 20.5-metre ribbon, which, says Specsavers, gives employers a quick way of raising awareness of the issue internally and allows them to check if drivers can see the number plate at the required distance (although it cannot be used in place of a full sight test with an optician).

It also includes updates regarding legislation, facts and figures, information and materials for employees, and recent news items. The pack will be constantly updated to provide the very latest advice and information, promises Specsavers.€ᄄ

Mike Reed, marketing director at the Licence Bureau, said it had partnered with Specsavers because “we wanted to tackle the issue of driver eyesight. So far, we have issued over 100 driving packs to our new and existing clients, plus money-saving vouchers to encourage drivers to get their eyes tested.

“We have had a great response to the pack, with clients asking for more copies to share with colleagues and for other locations.”€ᄄ€ᄄThe packs are available free upon request from Specsavers Corporate Eyecare — call 0115 933 0800 or e-mail: [email protected]€ᄄ
