Equipment tagging – LOLER Tags

Accidents involving fork-lift trucks represent 24 per cent of all vehicle incidents in the workplace, according to HSE figures fo 2010/2011.

Companies that operate lifting equipment, must comply with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).

In order for companies to keep track of the maintenance status of lifting equipment, Scafftag offers its LOLER Tag inspection system, which, it says is designed to attach permanently to the equipment. Scafftag recommends that the LOLER tag is placed as near to the operator cabin-access point as possible, for maximum visual impact.

The LOLER Tag uses the company’s Holder and Insert system. The inserts provide a space for the equipment, safe working load, a signature box, and the next inspection date. The inserts need to be completed and placed in the holder to indicate the equipment is fit for use. If anything fails the checking process, the inserts should be removed from the holder to instantly display the warning, ‘Do Not Use’, and the operator should notify the supervisor.
