Upcoming event: Mental Health Matters, Maudsley Learning

Community interest company, Maudsley Learning, is hosting a conference on the 15 January 2014 to address the issues of mental health.

The conference, Mental Health Matters, which will take place in Denmark Hill, London, will work on helping teams to identify and support mental health and wellbeing issues within the working environment, as well as giving advice on how to create a supportive and successful place of work.

Maudsley Learning is funded by the Maudsley Learning charity, which supports research, education and investment within the field of mental health.

Genevieve Glover, MD of Maudsley Learning and a chartered fellow of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD) said: “Employee mental health and wellbeing is a significant issue in today’s workplace, not only to create the right environment for employees to thrive but also to enable competitive advantage for businesses to succeed.”

The one-day conference will aim to educate attendees on: understanding the impact of mental health illness on behaviours in the workplace; knowing how to support employees to continue to perform effectively; and ensuring that the organisation is meeting its legal requirements.

The conference includes speakers from CIPD, the Institute of Psychiatry, March on Stress, the University of Sheffield, Transport for London, and The Stress Management Society, among others.

The course of the day will see talks from various different speakers, workshops, case study sessions and panel discussions, as well as opportunities for networking and Q&A sessions. Some of the topics covered include:
  • managing  common mental disorders in the workplace;
  • managing traumatic events;
  • managing sickness absence; and
  • understanding the cultural and commercial costs of stress.
