SHP has revealed its editorial board for 2023, a hand-picked panel of HS professionals who will guide its editorial output.
The board will meet twice in 2023 and offer topic suggestions, feedback and highlight future trends enhancing SHP’s editorial offering. It will also contribute to the direction of SHP’s sister event, the Safety and Health Expo.
The post is an annual role and 2024’s editorial board will be selected towards the end of this year.
This year’s editorial board is made up of the following health and safety professionals:
- Rachel Butler – Head of Health, Safety and Risk – Bruntwood
- Cindy Bell – SHE Advisor – Greggs
- Lucilla Cummings – HSE Improvement Specialist – Travis Perkins
- Rob Jukes – Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager – Northwood Hygiene Products
- James Pomeroy – Director, Global Health and Safety Leader, ARUP
- Karl Simons OBE – Chief Futurist – Fyld and UK Government Cabinet Office Advisor
- Louise Ward – Safety and Sustainability Director (UK & Europe), Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
- Gillian White – Marketing and Communications, Arco
Commenting, board member James Pomeroy says its establishment comes at an interesting time for the profession. “Change is reshaping the world of safety at an ever-increasing pace,” he told SHP. “The convergence of new technologies, changes in regulation, new ways of working, along with the emergence of different thinking in safety mean that keeping updated can be a real challenge. SHP is a great way to keep informed and updated about all these changes.”
Editor Mark Glover welcomes the board’s inception: “Our editorial board straddles an array of verticals and voices and will help steer SHP in its goal to inform, educate and empower the health and safety profession. We look forward to seeing what outcomes it brings.”

Hi Pete, thanks for your feedback. We tried to make this year’s cohort a mix of young and old, of different verticals and with different experiences. However, the editorial board is changed annually, so your thoughts will be taken into consideration when we select next year’s panel. Thanks again for your feedback – we really find it useful. Mark – Editor SHP
