SHP AWARDS 2024

Trailblazer shortlist announced

The judges for SHP’s Trailblazer award have selected their top five nominees for 2024.

The accolade, part of the wider SHP Awards, commends those that have shown innovation while developing a solution for a tangible problem.

Here we reveal the finalists, along with excerpts from their nominations.

  • Khalida Suleymanova, Director, AMRSA Academy – “Her solutions redefine safety and operational excellence, ensuring that the offshore renewable sector surges forward not just in scale and efficiency but with an unwavering commitment to protecting its workforce—a testament to the transformative potential of adversity and determination.
  • Danielle Cairney, Wellbeing Manager, WSP UK and Ireland – Throughout her career, Danielle has championed initiatives that truly support people, most recently as Wellbeing Manager for WSP UK&I. Observing a noticeable decline in employee engagement around leadership commitment to wellbeing, she initiated a pioneering three-part program aimed at empowering employees and shifting perspectives.
  • Luke Johnson, Head of Health and Safety, Samsic – His nomination for the SHP Trailblazer Award stems from his ground breaking work in developing and implementing a range of innovative solutions that have transformed safety governance, improved environmental impact, and embedded a people-first approach within the organisation.”
  • Carl Hagemann – Carl Hagemann has long been a force for good in safety and health.  A former chair of the IOSH Sports Grounds and Events Group, and co-author of the Purple Guide on event safety, he now runs the safety standards setter for the amusements industry, ADIPS (Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme). In this role, Carl has been a true trailblazer and instrumental in driving standards in the sector.”
  • Munene Kamundi – I am deeply honored to nominate Munene Kamundi for this esteemed award, recognizing his profound dedication to the well-being of wildlife rangers in Africa. For the past three years, Munene has been a tireless advocate, pioneering initiatives that address the mental health challenges faced by these courageous individuals who often work in traumatic environments.”

Congratulations to the nominees!

The winner of the Trailblazer award will be announced live on Tuesday 3rd December at SHP’s partner show, Anticipate London.
