SHP Rising Star Awards 2024

Launched by SHP in 2015, the Rising Star Award is free to enter and open to anyone aged 30 and under.

This special award aims to commend young professionals showing drive and determination in the early stages of their careers and supports them for further success.

As well as a Rising Star UK award, previous years have seen sub-awards in categories including manufacturing, construction and international – however, this year we will be looking for just one overall winner – the Rising Star.

This year, as an exciting new addition, SHP will announce the winner of the award live at our partner show for leaders of people and property – Anticipate London (2-4 December).

Recognising health and safety professionals across all sectors, going above and beyond to improve occupational health, safety and/or workplace wellbeing in the UK, this is among one of the highest awards for young health and safety professionals.

The current holder of Rising Star, winner of the 2023 award, is Samantha Cartwright, Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisor at Luton Airport. “I was incredibly proud to be awarded SHP’s Rising Star of 2023. The unexpected yet much appreciated award recognised my dedication to wellbeing in the workplace; a topic which I am very passionate about.”

In a special interview about winning the award Samantha said: “I would love to see more younger people not being afraid to step out and go against the norm, inciting change.”

What makes a Rising Star?

If you’re looking to enter the SHP Rising Star category, judges will be looking for entrants, under the age of 30, to demonstrate commitment, drive and passion to their role. Where appropriate, they would like to see tangible examples of initiative taken and to demonstrate this passion and commitment and drive.

Last year’s winner Samantha added: “My advice for those of you applying to be 2024’s winner is simple: let your passion shine through! Show us your motivations for doing what you do, and the impact you want to have on workplace health, safety & wellbeing. Best of luck to all applicants & I can’t wait to read your submissions”.
