SHP Awards 2022 launches with call for nominations

SHP is calling for nominations following the launch of its 2022 awards, which include a new category around ESG.

The deadline for entrants is Wednesday 19 October and those interested in taking part can do so here.

Running again in collaboration with global HSEQ talent experts Shirley Parsons, the awards are free to enter, with three main categories:

This year, a Trailblazer category around ESG has been included, recognising health and safety’s role in influencing environmental, social and governance within organisations.

Judges for 2022 include: James Pomeroy, Global, Health, Safety, Environment and Security Director at Lloyd’s Register; Sam Greensitt, Global Head of Partnerships, Acre Frameworks; Sue-Parker Tantush, former Director of Safety and Health at Co-Op; and Mark Glover, Editor, SHP, among others.

The awards are being supported by global HSEQ talent experts Shirley Parsons. Commenting on the initiative, Shirley Parsons CMIOSH, Founder and Brand Ambassador said, “Our profession continuously strives to make the world a healthier, safer and more sustainable place. We know there are so many fantastic initiatives, ideas and achievements out there, all driven by some truly talented individuals – we’re thrilled to be working with SHP once again to recognise and celebrate the best of these.”

Last year’s winner of the Most Influential award was Mavis Nye, for her work as a campaigner, supporting and raising awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure. SHP asked Mavis what winning last year’s award meant to her, “I was shocked when I received the SHP Most influential person in health and safety and didn’t realise so many people follow my story of a sufferer of Mesothelioma the asbestos disease, I fight so hard to prevent others from not taking their lungs for granted and to protect them in all the work they do.  Winning the award gave me the motivation to carry on the awareness that PPE is so important to get right. Keep safe and protect your lungs.”

Head of Informa Markets Health and Safety Portfolio Charlotte Geoghegan expects the awards to get a good response as the profession looks back and learns from the pandemic. “Covid-19 proved something of reset for companies as health and safety flew up the agenda on an almost daily basis. We hope these awards will celebrate those that have thrived in such challenging circumstances.”

Finalists and winners will be announced in early November.
