RoSPA tackling big health issues at Safety & Health Expo 2018

Accident prevention charity RoSPA is set to host a range of seminars at June’s Safety & Health Expo, tackling a wide range of subjects across the three-day event, including driver behaviour and road risk, workforce development, worker wellbeing and training.

Safety & Health Expo 2018

Tuesday 19 June – Building skills

Getting the best results from training will be the topics of Health & Safety Consultant Ian Whyte’s seminar (Professional Development Theatre, 13.50). As health & safety issues become more diverse and training budgets become stretched Whyte will discuss how to optimise value for money and ensure that the right people get the right training.

Wednesday 20 June – Safety Differently and managing behaviour

Dr Karen McDonnell, OHS Policy Adviser at RoSPA and former President of IOSH, will be part of a six-person panel debating the Safety Differently philosophy in the Keynote Theatre at 11.25. The session will look at the approach to health & safety, which looks to move beyond compliance and empower people, and discuss its benefits and limitations with case studies from London Luton Airport and GEODIS UK, two organisations putting the philosophy into practice.

Dr McDonnell will then be speaking in the Health & Wellbeing Theatre at 14.00 on how to identify and then tackle health and wellbeing challenges within your organisation.

Also on Wednesday, a session on changing driver behaviour within an organisation (Professional Development Theatre, 12.20) will see RoSPA Fleet Safety Manager Keith Bell discuss the impact that driver behaviour has on customers and how to get drivers engaged in good health and safety practice.

Thursday 21 June – A RoSPA afternoon

RoSPA will be taking the Operational Excellence Theatre over in the afternoon, with a range of sessions covering more personal approaches to health & safety, and developing compliance issues.

To kick things off at 14.00, RoSPA will welcome Gatwick Airport’s EHS Manager Malcolm Bryce-Stafford to speak about collaborative H&S successes based on conversations with staff rather than proscribed compliance.

Dr McDonnell returns at 15.00 to talk organisational sustainability from a #wholepersonwholelife perspective, considering workforce planning and engagement across a working life.

Health & Safety Consultant Bernie Cerrino will bring the curtain down on the day’s programme at 15.30 with the story of the development of ISO 45001 and how companies can adapt to the new standard.

Every day

Fleet Consultant John Greenhough will be taking to the Driver Safety Theatre at 15.30 on each of the three days of the expo to discuss the importance of managing operational road risk. The talk will inform businesses how best to identify gaps in organisational processes and develop cost effective solutions at an affordable price.

You will also be able to find RoSPA on the Safety & Health Expo floor at exhibition stand M300.

The full seminar programme for the Safety & Health Expo 2018 can be found on the Safety & Health Expo website.
